Has Wee Choo Keong The Courage Of His Convictions To Back Up His Allegations By Publicly Stating Unequivocally That Lim Kit Siang Applied For And Obtained An AP To Import A Foreign Car?

Press Release
by Teresa Kok

(Kuala Lumpur, Friday): First I wish to state that I did not tell some papers that I used my AP to buy the Honda City vehicle I am driving, but that I merely told them that I am now driving a Honda City.

DAP expresses regrets that Wee Choo Keong, a former DAP member who was expelled from the party in 1998, has continued to conspire against the DAP with baseless allegations against his former party leaders over the AP issue. The fact that an expelled member from the DAP 7 years ago, continue to gain wide coverage in the mass media completely out of proportion with his public standing, confirms the suspicions that his antics only serve to support the interests of BN.

We are puzzled why Wee is so interested in the single APs given to DAP MPs but not to other opposition or BN MPs. Worse, why is Wee making such a hue and cry over DAP MPs who obtained one AP but not the AP Kings who obtained tens of thousands of MPs?

Political debate must be based on facts and reason not lies and histrionics. DAP is tired of Wee’s false allegations that Parliamentary Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang has applied and obtained an AP to import a foreign car. Has Wee Choo Keong the courage of his convictions to back up his allegations by publicly stating unequivocally that Sdr Lim Kit Siang applied for and obtained an AP to import a foreign car?

This follows the numerous qualifications and excuses by Wee previously that he did not actually state that against Lim Kit Siang, clearly in order to avoid being sued for defamation. To prove that he says what he means, Wee should prove that he is no paper tiger by clearly and unequivocally state that he is accusing Sdr Lim Kit Siang of applying and obtaining an AP to import a foreign car.

Another Distortion Of Parliamentary Question Posed By Lim Kit Siang

Another falsehood by Wee is that Sdr Lim Kit Siang deliberately asked for the AP list for MPs for a specified period from 2000 to 2005 to avoid being named as he was not an MP from 1999 to 2004. Let me state that Sdr Lim Kit Siang asked for the full AP list for all recipients, not just MPs, since 1978.

Whose fault is it if the Ministry refused to give the list since 1978 but only after 2000. This is proven by the question made by Sdr Lim to the Ministry as follows:-

“YB Tuan Lim Kit Siang minta Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa Dan Industri menyatakan salah guna yang berlaku dalam pengeluaran AP kepada kereta-kereta import, mengapa jumlah pengeluaran AP melonjak dalam tahun-tahun 2004-2005 dan berikan senarai penuh AP sejak 1978 termasuk AP individu.”

Such antics by Wee only justifies his expulsion from DAP and why no other political party would accept him until he has to form a political party himself. Wee Choo Keong may still be bitter over his expulsion 7 years ago but he should not out of personal vengeance confuse right from wrong or try to turn white into black.

Accordingly, DAP would not respond to other baseless allegations from an expelled DAP member. DAP urges the media not to demean itself by stooping to the level of Wee Choo Keong. There are many more people-oriented issues to write that matter to the country than to cater to the wild bitterness of an expelled DAP member.
