DAPSY strongly condemns terrorist attacks which took place in Bali
Island, Indonesia yesterday, killing at least 32 people and wounding
about 101 people. DAPSY would like to express our deepest condolences
to the families of the victims. The terrorist attack has again alarmed us that our
regional security is in stake. This is the second time such incident
took place in Bali Island. Besides Bali, South Thailand and South
Philippines are also affected with terrorist attacks lately. Therefore, there is an utmost urgency for all governments
in this region to review their current anti-terrorism mechanisms, especially
to consider reconciliation policy as a “soft” move to resolve terrorists’
threats. Thailand government has been using the conventional military action
to counter terrorist attacks in Southern Thailand but terrorism has not been
resolved until now. Therefore, it is time for Governments in this region to seriously review their
current counter-terrorism strategy. DAPSY believes that in order to solve the problem,
governments in this region must seriously look into the root-cause of the
problem. The reason why terrorism can groom into a globalized network is
that there are suppressions and oppressions on minority groups, either
politically, culturally, economically and religiously. Minority groups are
being marginalized, causing narrowing gap in resources distribution on all
aspects of national development agenda. In order to solve the problems, there must be fair
treatment towards all groups in their respective countries, allocating
assistances to the poor and needy to improve their living standard as to
ensure that different groups in their respective nation can play important
roles in all nation building agendas.
