(Petaling Jaya, Thursday): DAP expresses deepest condolences to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for the loss of his wife, Datin Seri Endon Mahmood, who passed away this morning after a long battle with breast cancer.

Datin Seri Endon will always be remembered as a First Lady with compassion, dignity and an indomitable spirit who accompanied and steadfastly supported her husband through the ups and downs in his political life. Her indomitable spirit suffused her fearless and ultimately futile struggle with breast cancer. She will be remembered for her courage and dignity whilst suffering from cancer, by refusing to let cancer overwhelm her, giving hope and encouragement to other cancer sufferers to fight on.

Even though she carried on the traditional role of centering on her family, she put the interests of the nation at heart. Despite her illness, Datuk Seri Abdullah carried on with his duties as usual as Prime Minister, a tribute to her sense of duty to the country. Datin Seri Endon will be missed by 25 million Malaysians from all walks of life.
