The government should not ignore that cry in the dark from any community

2008 New Year Message
by Karpal Singh

(Kuala Lumpur, Monday): On behalf of the DAP, I wish all Malaysians a happy and meaningful New Year. There have been many challenges which the country had to face in 2007. The government should not ignore that cry in the dark from any community. Any problems faced by any community require to be addressed by the Government fairly and squarely. The Government should ultimately work towards equality for all across the board.

Malaysia is a country endowed with plentiful natural resources which is the envy of other countries. There is enough for everybody’s needs, although not for everybody’s greed.

Malaysians of all races should strive towards unity and set an example to other countries that there can be unity in a multi-racial, multi-lingual and multi-religious society. The country can ill-afford another May 13 which is a sad blot on the psyche of the country. However, peace and harmony in the country, which has existed after May 13, should be preserved by all citizens.
