Unforgettable Malaysian of principles – Sdr K. Ramasen

Media Statement

by Lim Guan Eng

(Petaling Jaya, Saturday): DAP extends its deepest condolences to the family of former Bukit Raja State Assemblyman K. Ramasen, 78, who died on 17.1.2007 after a long illness. Sdr K. Ramasen was first elected in 1969 general elections with an upset 1,886 majority over the Alliance candidate.

Even though Ramasen never won again in subsequent elections, he won the respect of his peers for his determination, courage and willingness to sacrifice for the common people and workers to gain justice, democracy and the freedom from being oppressed. This was what made K. Ramasen an unforgettable Malaysian of principles.

K. Ramasen's integrity and courage in battling abuses of power were hallmarks of his career. In the 1970s, when some DAP leaders were being bought over by BN or helping BN to sow dissension and crisis within the DAP, K. Ramasen refused to be involved in money politics.

My personal memories of K. Ramasen is one of unflinching loyalty to the struggle for DAP's Malaysian Malaysia centred on a society that cares for the poor and is multi-racial and multi-religious. He never failed to give encouragement to fight the righteous cause and never lost faith that justice shall always prevail.

A true Malaysian son, K. Ramasen's spirit shall always live. To one unforgettable Malaysian of principle, May God Bless His Soul.
