(Petaling Jaya, Friday) : DAP welcomes the announcement by Saudara Azmin Ali, Parti Keadilan Rakyat's Vice President, that the party would not contest the upcoming April 12 Machap by-election, paving way for a straight fight between DAP and Barisan Nasional.

As DAP Secretary-General Sdr Lim Guan Eng had explained that whilst DAP respects the decision by PKR or PAS to boycott any by-election, DAP will not boycott but would definitely contest in any seat previously contested by DAP. For this reason the CEC unanimously approved the decision to contest in the Machap by-election, which has been traditionally contested by the DAP.

PKR's decision to ensure a one-to-one fight between DAP and BN augurs well for inter-party cooperation between both party leadership as well as enhance the goodwill between the members of the two parties for future collaboration. The shared objectives of both parties in the by-election is to provide an opportunity for voters in Machap to represent all Malaysians to demonstrate their disapproval of Barisan Nasional's "mid-term report card"- which is one of failure in good governance in areas such as fighting corruption, political equality, equal economic opportunity and social justice.

DAP believes that PKR leaders and members would actively participate and assist in this by-election campaign to ensure a winning performance against BN and welcome any inputs by PKR in this by-election.
