(Kuala Lumpur, Saturday) : MIC President, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, has thrown an idle dare to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to to stand against him in the next general elections. 

He says, ‘we can fight in any constituency. He can come to Sungei Siput. I am not scared.’ Samy Vellu knows that the next general elections will be called before April next year when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim becomes eligible to stand for election. 

As usual, Samy Vellu does not throw out challenges which are meaningful. Is he prepared to take Mr Lim Kit Siang or myself on in any constituency in the coming elections? I dare him to accept this challenge if he is man enough. In the Lunas by-election, Samy Vellu said if the Barisan Nasional lost, he would not leave Lunas but when Barisan Nasional, in fact, lost, he crawled all the way back to Kuala Lumpur. 

I hope Samy Vellu will publicly declare whether he is prepared to take Lim Kit Siang or myself in the coming elections or in the alternative pursuade the Prime Minister to have the next general elections after April next year to enable Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to stand for election and take on Samy Vellu’s challenge.
