DAP Wanita Selangor would like to discuss and exchange views with PAS Muslimat on dress code

We refer to news report of YB Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (PAS-Rantau Panjang) urging the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development to enforce a dress code which she said would help prevent sexual harassment. According to Malaysiakini, YB Siti Zailah has suggested for the government to enact laws to prevent women from wearing "indecent" clothing as a measure to curb sexual crimes.

DAP Wanita Selangor is willing to sit down, discuss and share views with Pas Muslimat on the issue of dress code for women. DAP Wanita Selangor respectfully disagrees with the statement and the approach taken by YB Siti Zailah. Such argument is flawed. Sexual crime of any sorts against women should never be justified. Victims should not be blamed but protected, more so by the authorities.

We believe it is time for the authorities and society to focus on educating and punishing sexual aggressors instead of chasing the wind on dress codes for women.
