Najib should immediately stop the witch-hunt against Pakatan Rakyat supporters

Any right-thinking Malaysian would be stunned upon reading the fabricated news article against Pakatan Rakyat supporters published in Utusan Malaysia on Saturday.

The article had accused a Malaysian owner of an electronics firm in Taiwan, Pua Khein Seng, of being involved in the so-called cybertrooper movement known as the "Red Bean Army". This ridiculous accusation reveals the desperation of right-wing leaders in UMNO as they struggle to retain their influence and relevance among Malaysians, particularly the Malay community.

Utusan made the downright baseless allegation against Pua in the article "Penglibatan Syarikat Elektronik Taiwan disiasat". The article offers neither proof nor credible sources to back up the allegation.

What is ironic is that Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the UMNO President himself, had called for "national reconciliation" after the 13th general election. Yet, he has chosen to remain silent, rendering his words meaningless by these wild and crazy accusations against Pakatan Rakyat leaders and supporters.

Najib should immediately stop all witch-hunts against Pakatan Rakyat supporters to prove that he is serious about his call for "national reconciliation".

As we know, UMNO will have its General Assembly and party elections before the year-end. However, Najib as the leader of the nation should not allow the extremists and rightists in his party to dominate the discourse and make baseless accusations against PR supporters.

The witch-hunt against Pakatan Rakyat supporters only proves that Najib is not sincere about national reconciliation and refuses to accept the fact that he didn't get support from the majority of Malaysians, as Barisan Nasional was actually defeated by Pakatan Rakyat in terms of the popular vote in the 13th general election.

Najib must remember that he had once promised to make Malaysia "the best democracy in the world" before the 13th general election. Unfortunately, all his promises before and after the election are now meaningless as a result of witch-hunt being carried out by UMNO mouthpiece "Utusan Malaysia" and the party's right-wing leaders.
