10 questions submitted for the coming DUN sitting

I have submitted 10 questions for the coming DUN sitting which will commence tomorrow.

As this will be the first sitting after Abang Johari was appointed the Chief Minister of Sarawak, I have specified 9 questions for oral reply and 1 for written reply.

Sadly, it has been the practice of the Sarawak DUN that all questions for oral reply, if were not reply in the first hour of the daily DUN sitting, will not be answered notwithstanding the fact that those answers have been prepared by the respective Government Departments.

In most of the past sittings, all my questions for oral answers were listed very far down the line and could hardly get a chance to be answered in the Question and Answer session of the DUN sittings.

As such, I have made it a point to submit questions for written answers only. At least, by doing so, I will get the answers, albeit a few months after the sittings.

As Abang Jo is now the new Chief Minister, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt by presenting 9 questions for oral reply.

Hopefully, he will not repeat what was done by his few predecessors and have the courage to answer my questions in DUN.

The following are my 10 questions:

  1. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state how the proposed Sarawak Development Bank will be managed and the legislative control, if any, over the management of the fund injected into the said Bank. (Oral Reply)
  2. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state the status of the negotiation between the State Government and the Federal Government on the State’s demand for 20% Oil and Gas Royalties and to explain the non-result of such demand since the Motion was passed in June 2014 in this August House. (Oral Reply)
  3. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state the reason why the State Government continues to allow the plundering of the State’s most valuable resources, the offshore oil, by the Federal Government in light of the alleged unconstitutionality of the Territorial Sea Act, 2012. (Oral Reply)
  4. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state the reason for the cheap-sale of the State’s 50% stake in Sacofa Sdn Bhd to CMS Berhad without taking into consideration any premium for control, value of intangible asset of the company and the prevailing P/E ratio of telco companies in the industry. (Oral Reply)
  5. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state the reason for the State Government’s silence on the pig bristle brush issue and whether the State Government also subscribe to the banning of use of such brushes by Muslims for purposes not related to food preparation. (Oral Reply)
  6. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state whether the State Government has any plan to fund the setting up of private schools with English language as its medium of instruction so as to improve the standard of English in the State amongst our younger generation. (Oral Reply)
  7. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state whether the State Government will implement free public bus services (mentioned by the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem during the 2016 Sarawak State Elections) for the major cities in Sarawak to reduce traffic jams and ease the burden of the lower income earners. (Oral Reply)
  8. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state the total acreage of land previously included in the Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone but has now been reclassified for housing or commercial development. Please list down the new owners of such land and the respective premium payable thereon and reason for such re-classification? (Oral Reply)
  9. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state when will the construction of the four flyovers at Mile 4, Mile 6, Mile 7 and Mile 9 of Kuching-Serian Road which are part of the Pan Borneo Highway project Package 2 be commenced and completed. What are the respective estimated costs of these flyovers? (Oral Reply)
  10. To ask the Honourable Chief Minister to state the upgrading work of infra-structure carried out in Stampin Resettlement Scheme area since the presentation of the survey study report by Member for Kota Sentosa on 5-3-2012.
