1MDB: AG must break his silence or face the consequences

I call upon the Attorney-General to state what has become of investigations into the police report lodged by Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua over 1MDB on 4th March this year.

It is strange to find the nations top legal officer absolutely silent in this matter despite the huge sums of money alleged to be involved and the public outcry following thereafter.

The police have likewise failed to give us any credible update on any action taken.

This is unacceptable.

The Attorney-General must tell us what he has done and yet proposes to do in the matter. He must state if there is a need to secure if not oversee the movement of funds in 1MDB pending investigations and what has he done to achieve this.

He cannot remain silent almost as if he does not exist whilst further deals are done by 1MDB such as the 1MDB-TH land deal which has now become the subject matter of public criticism as well.

I also call upon The Attorney-General to tell us if he was privy to the 1MDB-TH land deal as he is by virtue of Article 145(2) of the Federal Constitution, chief advisor to the Cabinet and Ministers.

It will not be out of place to suggest that having been appraised of there being police reports lodged, he should have taken a personal interest in the affairs of 1MDB and subjected all further transactions thereafter to detailed scrutiny.

I am of the considered view that the Attorney-General is by law duty bound to publicly respond to the queries I have posed to him above.

If he does not, then he must be prepared to face the consequences which include not only a serious loss of public confidence but also serious criticism to come against him in the next sitting of the Dewan Rakyat next week.
