The Attorney-General should tell us what has become of the so called Special Task Force (STF) created to probe the controversies surrounding 1MDB.
It has been some time now since its inception but there are yet no specific details as to what its scope of investigations are and what it has done so far.
Whether the AG likes it or not, silence is not an option here.
Issues surrounding the controversy continue to hog the headlines. More recently concerns have been expressed over the possibility of funds used for political purposes, fabrication of documents and so forth.
With respect, the lack of specific and detailed responses from the STF to these matters will work heavily against it in terms of public confidence and credibility.
It leaves us guessing. Some even ask if the STF is capable or efficient as it keeps silent. Generally, no one knows for sure where the STF is headed with this probe.
I urge the AG to therefore speak up and respond.
Tell us what the STF’s role really is, what it is supposed to do, what it has done and ultimately where this will lead to.
He must also make clear if there is a time frame within which it must complete its probe.
A failure to do this will strengthen current views that this whole exercise is nothing more than a charade put into place to deflect concerns over complaints made in respect of matters surrounding 1MDB and that ultimately nothing will really come of it despite the gravity of the allegations involved.
