Malaysia had a vision of becoming a developed nation by the year 2020. But at the rate we are going, the country will only be known as an international pariah nation.
The new evidence by Australian journalist, Mary Ann Jolley, is explosive. And keeps coming back to haunt Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Jolley, in her half hour film about the murder of Mongolian model AltantuyaShaariibuu, said former commando SirulAzhar Umar was blackmailing Najib to keep quiet on the premier’s role.
He has also revealed the name of the person who pulled the trigger, to his relative known as “Frank”.
Over the last week more news reports have surfaced about a huge sum of money in Najib’s overseas bank account.
And the 1Malaysia Development Berhad corruption scandal, which is threatening Najib’s position as the top man in the country, has pulled in an Abu Dhabi investment firm over more than a billion dollars that seem to have also vanished.
To top it off the Deputy Public Prosecutor, Kevin Morais, who was seconded to the anti-corruption commission (MACC) that is also investigating the 1MDB financial scandal, has gone missing.
These are just too many strange coincidences that rope in Najib.
Although Altantuya’s murder has haunted Najib for years now, the latest evidence expose a mesh of interlocking weaknesses in our system.
Picking up on these weaknesses, Jolley’s half hour film hints that the police and even the judiciary had worked together to shape a narrative that favors Najib and his associates.
This is totally unacceptable and the only fair thing to do now would be to re-open investigations into the case, to investigate the issues raised in the film and not the journalist, as announced by top cop, Khalid Abu Bakar, as this once again amounts to shooting the messenger.
Failure to do so would mean government institutions and enforcement bodies are in cahoots to keep the truth buried.
