Since yesterday, the RTM Mandarin newsreader was made to read the report without any accompanying video footage for the whole programme aired.
The directive came from the management after the Mandarin news team airing an unflattering photograph of the prime minister.
I would like to remind BN government and the management of RTM that we are Malaysia and not North Korea. This type of high-handed approach renders press freedom a mockery.
RTM news team is not the plastic surgeon for Najib and his ministers. It is not their duty to please Najib or to convince the audience to support Najib.
As such, I have submitted an emergency motion to the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat today. I hope the speaker will allow the motion to be debated on Monday as the directive from the management is a serious interference and intervention of media professionalism and press freedom.
