Three major reasons why Sarawakians should vote for a stronger Opposition

Sarawak chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem is obviously very confident about his popularity in this election. So much so that he has even said that 4 days ago he has even told the voters that to think of him should they dislike the BN candidates.

It is often said that there is only a thin line between confidence and arrogance and I think Adenan has made an arrogant statement.

The Opposition recognizes the fact that Adenan and the BN government will have no problem retaining the state power on May 7 polling day. And with public opinion survey saying that Adenan is enjoying high popularity of over 80%, there is a chance that BN will even do better.

But the voters must think if they should allow Adenan and BN to win so big in this election.

There are basically three major reasons why the Sarawakians must in fact vote for a stronger opposition on May 7.

Firstly, Adenan is not a true liberal or democract and he and his government must be checked by a stronger government.

The fact that he has abused the immigration powers to stop peninsular politicians from coming to Sarawak to engage in legitimate political activities shows he is a not leader whom the people should totally trust or support.

It is unpredictable what he can do in his final term if he wins big . The big win may just become a blind mandatefor him to act according his whims and fancies.

Secondly, he has implemented quite a number of popular measures because of the need to win over voter support. Astronger opposition will put pressure on him to implement even more.

Thirdly, the voters must use their votes to express their disapproval of the federal government’s GST policy as well as the way 1 MDB issue has been handled.

Adenan can deny this but the fact is that if BN wins big, the Prime Minister Datuk Najib will definitely take the election result as the voters’ acceptance and support for GST and 1 MDB issue.

Sarawakians should therefore not allow the election to become one where a vote for BN becomes a vote for Najib.

Come May 7, the Sarawakians should vote against BNcandidates and say a big no to Najib.
