The DAP Disciplinary Committee (“DC”) held a disciplinary hearing today in relation to allegations that DAP State Assemblyman for Teluk Datuk Loh Chee Heng (“Loh”) had misused state funds allocated for the Teluk Datuk constituency.
The DAP DC had received a written complaint of misuse of state funds by Loh on March 2016. Considering the seriousness of the allegations, the DAP DC had on 15 March 2016 requested the DAP Selangor State Committee to conduct an internal investigation to ascertain the validity of the complaint.
The internal investigation by the DAP Selangor State Committee found that there were basis to the allegations, i.e. there is evidence of wrongdoing on the part of Loh.
Following the disciplinary hearing today, during which Loh was given the opportunity to explain himself, the DAP DC have concluded that there is evidence of serious misconduct by Loh and has unanimously decided to terminate his Party membership with immediate effect.
The DAP is a party that strongly advocates transparency, accountability and good governance and expect all its elected representatives to adhere to the highest standards of integrity in their conduct and discharge of their public duties. Consistent with its principles, the Party cannot condone the actions of an elected representative who misuses state funds. Such a misconduct is tantamount to a serious breach of public trust placed upon the elected representative.
The DAP DC deeply regrets the actions of Loh who has brought disrepute to the Party as a result of his misconduct in misusing state funds. Therefore, the expulsion of Loh from the Party demonstrates how seriously the DAP DC views such misconduct. Let this episode serve as a reminder to all Party elected representatives that they must not abuse the trust placed on them by the electorate but must display the highest level of integrity in all their dealings, especially in the handling of state funds allocated to them.
