DAP Sabah strongly condemns the barrage of political assassination against Penang Chief Minister-cum-Secretary General of DAP Lim Guan Eng who was arrested in Penang yesterday.
DAP Sabah unanimously stands behind Lim and believe that Lim is innocent. Despite furnishing facts that there was no mishandling over the case, UMNO continues its best to continue tarnishing and politically assassinating Lim Guan Eng and the Pakatan Harapan led Penang state government.
With the glaring double standards, one cannot help but reek with dissatisfaction and cast aspersions over the way the authorities acted.
In 2008, Anwar Ibrahim was arrested by dozens of balaclava-clad commandos. In 2015, Khalid Samad was arrested at 3 in the morning. This time, a party of policemen and vehicles greeted Lim Guan Eng at the Penang state administrative building.
The billion dollar question remains. When will Najib Razak be called in for investigations and arrested like how the Opposition is always arrested?
Since Apandi Ali took over as the new Attorney General, not only did he clear Najib Razak on the 1MDB scandal. He was even once quoted as saying “not a crime to lie”.
The string of events is timely. In 2015, former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyuddin Yasmin and four other Federal Ministers were sacked. The Attorney General was terminated on dubious reasons whereas a couple of MACC officers investigating 1MDB were transferred. The taskforce investigating Najib Razak was also disbanded.
With Anwar Ibrahim in jail, coupled with the election results in Sarawak, Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, the Prime Minister is on the offense, paving way to call for snap polls and win by default.
A new dawn is approaching. In this testing times, we call upon all Sabahans to be be cowed by intimidation. Persevere and stand for the truth. Stand with Anwar, stand with Guan Eng, stand with the Opposition and work together.
In this testing times, we can give in to finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.
