The whole nation is now made aware of grave allegations made by Court of Appeal judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer and a former member of parliament, N. Surendran that they have evidences of alleged judicial interference from top judges and judiciary’s role in scamming the government.
In my opinion, the government now has five options:
- Remaining silent;
- Lodge police report and have the judges involved arrested or suspended;
- Remove Hamid Sultan;
- Form a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI);
- Convene an emergency parliament session.
I reckon a RCI appears to be the best option; otherwise, an emergency parliament session should be convened as soon as possible to decide on the government’s next course of action.
Action must be prompt and timely in order to restore public confidence in the judiciary. If the allegations made by Hamid are true, this is a case of the proverbial saying, ‘Fox guarding the henhouse’ (‘Harapkan pegar, pegar makan padi’).
