The Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, should be commended for his China trip for he had secured RM170 billion worth of investment commitments – the most for any Malaysian Prime Minister in a China visit.
These are for a total of 19 memoranda of understanding (MOU), sealed between businesses in Malaysia and China in various fields, especially in green technology and the digital economy.
China is the eighth country Anwar visited since his appointment less than five months ago, and undoubtedly, the most successful in getting investment commitments for Malaysia for the future,
The other seven countries Anwar had visited are Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Cambodia!
But what is of concern is that war-drums are beginning to be heard in the China-United States rivalry on the world stage.
It would be global disaster if the US attempt to prevent China from becoming the sole superpower in the world ended up in war.
Malaysia and other countries in the world must ensure that this does not eventuate, that American public opinion accept the inevitability that China will be No. 1 in the world because of its size and the dynamism of its people.
Nobody wants the China-US competition to end up in war, which will not benefit the rest of the world, China or the United States.
There is a 50-mllion strong Chinese Diaspora and 32-million strong Indian Diaspora in the world.
The Malaysian Government of plural Malaysia should tap these Diasporas to help prevent the China-United States confrontation ending up in a war for everyone will become casualties.
