Any anti-graft pledge signed by the police force would be meaningless if police cases or MACC probes involving police personnel are not dealt with speedily and effectively.
The police force led by the IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar signed Anti-Corruption Pledges before the Deputy Prime Minister. The IGP said the Royal Malaysian Police aims to achieve zero-corruption status. He also said that the police force, through the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department would play a role in ensuring that every police officer and member maintains the highest level of integrity and that several measures have been taken by the department to monitor corruption in the force.
With respect, the Inspector General of Police should first tell us what has become of the probe in “Ops Gopi”.
Both the IGP and the MACC chief have a lot of explaining to do. On the one hand the police sign pledges but at the same time there is silence and nothing yet announced about what has become of this major investigation at the heart of Bukit Aman.
To me as Member of Parliament, the upshot of it all is for us to again ask, what meaning does a pledge have if one does not act in a manner consistent with it?
This is a matter of public interest. It is absolutely essential for us to be reassured that there is no reason to doubt officers in the force if we are to have confidence in Bukit Aman. Members of the public are therefore entitled to know what happened to “Ops Gopi”?
