Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali’s announcement that no charges will be brought against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak based on the investigations carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is shocking and unconvincing.

In view of his sudden appointment as AG and his predecessor’s sudden retirement, I have to say that Apandi Ali has yet to establish his reputation as an impartial and independent law enforcement officer in the country.

As such, to collaborate his view that our Prime Minister Najib has not committed any criminal offences, Apandi Ali should release the whole investigation papers of MACC for public inspection. This is also the best method to defend Najib’s integrity as there are many questions still unanswered.

For instance, despite the fact that Apandi Ali claimed that Najib Abdul Razak had no knowledge, nor was he informed, that funds from SRC International Sdn Bhd were transferred into his personal bank accounts, we still don’t know why a company wholly owned by Ministry of Finance had deposited RM42 million through its subsidiaries into the bank account of the Finance Minister. Whose decision was it because SRC has never deposit a single into my bank account? Did any other government-owned companies ever donate money to the ministers? Does it not amount to criminal breach of trust?

Other than that, while Apandi Ali has told us that Najib had returned US$620 million from the US$681 million that was channelled into his personal bank accounts as political donation, but how about the RM42 million from SRC International? Was the money returned to SRC as well? If not, why the money was not returned?

Before the questions above are answered with no ambiguity, the donation scandals will continue to haunt Najib and Apandi Ali because we Malaysians are not stupid.
