We pick and choose our fights. And we learn to let go. Sometimes we admit defeat. Or we will end up looking ludicrous, like the Home Ministry that has banned Bersih T-shirts and anything in yellow with the Bersih slogan or its demands.
The government is clearly losing it, big time. Or they will not stoop this low to engage in gutter politics.
The Home Ministry has certainly waited until the very last moment to abuse its powers and gazette the Bersih tees as illegal.
It’s laughable because by doing so the government has admitted it can’t fool or convince the people to stay home.
The last minute ban shows the government is very afraid of the momentum for change that tomorrow’s rally is capable of bringing on.
And as a last resort, the government has trained its sight on banning the logo and the colour, yellow.
These are just fear tactics that the government has a history of relying on to oppress and silence the people.
Unfortunately it won’t work this time around as the people are fed-up with a corrupt government that would do anything to stay in power.
It won’t work this time around as the rakyat are livid with 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s huge financial scandal, Prime Minister Najib Razak’s role in it and his refusal to allow for a peaceful transition of power.
The people have had enough of the electoral fraud and structural obstacles designed by UMNO and Barisan Nasional to block the Opposition from winning power.
Come tomorrow, the people will march towards empowerment, a clean government, free and fair elections, parliamentary democracy and the right to dissent.
There is certainly no doubt about that.
