Bersih 4.0 : The Police must do its best to ensure that what will go down in the nation’s history as a great “democracy carnival ’’will be able to be carried out without disruption by any agent provocateur

Datuk Jamal Yunos, the leader of the anti Bersih group told the The Star online that his group was preparing themselves for a potentially violent protest during Bersih 4 this weekend.

The Star Online has reported the following:-

“There will be closed door training for our members tonight (Wednesday) and they will use long knives (parang) and swords for self-defence,” he told The Star Online.

Jamal, the Sg Besar Umno division chief said some 30,000 people from over 200 non-governmental organisations would be mobilised this weekend to coincide with the Bersih 4 rally.

What Jamal has publicly said was shocking and seditious and he should be immediately arrested for investigation.

But the initial response from Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was disappointing and inadequate.

Khalid said any party, be it Bersih or the red shirts would be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law if they were involved in acts of violence.

Datuk Jamal can say that they are peace loving , that they will not initiate violence unless attacked, but the point is can the Police not act given what he publicly said– that his group will bring long knives and swords.

While writing this statement, I have received news that the Police have summoned the Red Shirts organizers for investigation at 3 pm today.

This is the right and immediate action that the IGP Khaid should have done when contacted for response yesterday. In fact, Police raids ought to have been carried out immediately to confiscate all their long knives and swords.

Khalid must know that it is his responsibility to ensure law and order in this country and he must take effective and swift measures to ensure anyone intent on creating violence will be immediately dealt with.

Malaysians are also concerned and angry to read news report titled: Harussani: Peserta demo demo Bersih Dikira Penderhaka Kepada Kerajaan, Halal Dibunuh.

If he has truly said those words, has he not committed a crime? What have the Police done?

Bersih 4.0 will be a peaceful event for thousands of Malaysians to exercise their constitutional rights to register their concerns about the future of democracy, the nation’s economy and good governance.

The Police must do its best to ensure that what will go down in the nation’s history as a great “democracy carnival ’’will be able to be carried out without disruption by any agent provocateur.
