On March 18, I had taken part in the parliamentary debates on the Royal Address and among the issues which I had touched on included the Home Minister’s comments related to my satirical video titled Onederful Malaysia.
I had criticized the Home Minister as irresponsible for dismissing the slap threat made against me by the self styled “Coalition of Islamic NGOs”.
He was widely quoted by the media to have said that slapping was not a threat, adding that “If they issued a death threat, then it would be a threat”.
I suggested in my debate that he should undertake a course in criminal laws so as to avoid making such mistake in future.
Yesterday, Datuk Zahid came to Parliament to reply to issues related to the Home Ministry.
However, he chose not to answer the issues raised by me. In fact, he chose to ignore me by deliberately not looking into my direction when I interrupted to remind him that he had yet to answer my issues.
What is the point of parliamentary meetings if Ministers can choose not to reply to issues raised by MPs during parliamentary debates?
By not according due and proper respect for the views expressed by a MP, Datuk Zahid Hamidi has shown contempt for Parliament.
Such conduct by a Minister is totally irresponsible, unacceptable and deplorable.
If Zahid found that he was not able to defend his dismissal of the slap threat, what he ought to have done was to retract his ridiculous, deplorable remarks and tender an apology.
But he chose to commit the parliamentary sin of refusing to reply to me.
His last month’s dismissal of the slap threat met with heavy public criticisms and raised question as to whether he is fit to be the Home Minister.
His yesterday’s conduct in Parliament is sufficient reason for the Prime Minister to seriously think if Zahid is qualified to continue to be even a Minister.
