Call for Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi to be investigated on the existence and survival of MyKad selling syndicates which has been operating during his time as Home Minister serving under the Barisan Nasional government

It is amusing and ironic to see UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Asraf Wajdi Dusuki training his guns on my esteemed colleague Jelutong MP RSN Rayer as the lawyer representing one of the accused in the MyKad selling syndicate recently detained in Penang. Along with him was also a press conference held by MIC Penang calling for action against Rayer by DAP and the icing on the cake was a group of rude hooligans creating a storm outside his service centre which was sensationalised by equally moronic supporters.

To link that Rayer representing the accused to increase membership of the party is absurd, manic and ridiculous to say the least, especially coming from a person who is supposed to be voice of the youth fraternity within his party. I had expected an argument of more substance than perception and assumption from him, less from his party.

As shared by a criminal lawyer Sivahnanthan Ragava, ‘every single criminal case is an offence against the state and selling identity cards is just one of the offences. The Malaysian Bar Council’s motto is to act without fear or favour, presumption of innocence until proven guilty, the right to a fair trial and when in doubt to read the Practice and Etiquette Rules 1978”. Dr Asraf clearly needs to do more homework on this.

Instead, I challenge Dr Asraf Wajdi Dusuki and his colleagues in other component parties in BN to throw a pertinent question to Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, who was Home Minister while the MyKad selling syndicate was operating without a whim or care in the world what his role was in it. Using Dr Asraf’s argument, can it also be perceived that Zahid Hamidi was aware of the wrongdoings of his men in the National Registration Department, PDRM or the Immigration Department and did not act on it or will he say he had nothing to do with it and offer himself to be a witness to assist the NRD, Royal Malaysian Police and the Immigration Department to quash this vile syndicate in the coming second wave of arrests?

Asraf and his likeminded colleagues will be doing Malaysia a great service if they can start by condemning the disgraceful act of these NRD officers and surely some from the Immigration Department staffs who had a hand in this treacherous act and calling for the President of UMNO Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi to be also investigated as Home Minister, as the syndicate was already operating during BN’s regime and not something new under the governance of Pakatan Harapan.

We compliment the Director General of the National Registration Department and his officers on their commitment to the police, to the Government and to the people of Malaysia to cooperate and assist the police in busting the MyKad selling syndicates.

RSN Rayer is a principled politician and a professional lawyer who will uphold justice and the rule of law without fear or favour, unlike scores of shameless supporters who are still rallying behind a kleptocratic former premier in Najib Razak.

The person who should be in your cross hairs should be your party President who was Home Minister when the MyKad selling syndicate was alive and thriving, not just in Penang but from Perlis to Johore, Sabah and Sarawak – a true disgrace to your party, country and to the rakyat.
