Over the past 10 days there is a concerted effort by several quarters to demonise, slander and distort Bersih 4 as a DAP-dominated rally and Chinese rally. With UMNO mouthpiece Mingguan Malaysia, the weekend edition of Utusan Malaysia at the very forefront publishing headlines “DAP kuasai Bersih 4.0” and “didominasi oleh kaum cina”.
No Malaysian would believe the headlines printed by Migguan Malaysia does not represent the view of UMNO.
The second wave of attack against Bersih 4 began when there is a rally started circulating in social media without any named organizer which is dubbed the “red shirt rally” or the so-called “Himpunan Maruah Melayu rally”. It is clear that these efforts are made to demonise, slander and distort Bersih 4 as a DAP-dominated rally and a Chinese rally where the Malays are under attack.
Bersih 4 was never a DAP rally nor a Chinese rally. It is a Malaysian rally where patriotic Malaysians of all races, religion and belief come together to demand for a clean election, clean government, the right to demonstrate, strengthening parliament democracy and to save Malaysia economy.
All the 5 values of the Bersih 4 demand are universal and non-racial. However the same could not be said of the “Red Shirt Rally”, where the rally is to gather all the Malays to show their strength to counter the so called Chinese dominated Bersih rally.
With UMNO Supreme Council member Ismail Sobri openly saying that UMNO will send members to support the “red shirt rally” and UMNO Vice President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi giving the green light for UMNO members to join the “red shirt rally, there is not a single doubt that the “red shirt rally” is secretly sponsored by UMNO.
DAPSY Perak has today lodged a police report at IPD Ipoh. I urge the police to immediately take action against the “Red Shirt Rally” and stop the rally from being carried out as it is racially motivated and will tear the society apart. The “red shirt rally”, if given green light will set a dangerous precedent where Malaysians are allowed to openly instigate racial tension through a racial rally.
