The on going “Patriot” car plate scheme is an abuse of power by the transport ministry to transfer public funds to a private NGO – call for Liow Tiong Lai to immediately suspend this dubious scheme which is deemed as abuse of public funds.
The ongoing “Patriot” car plate scheme which was launched by an unknown NGO “Yayasan Patriot Negara(YPN) which alleged to have the approval of Road Transport Department (RTD). Such excesize is deemed as a blatant abuse of power by the transport ministry to transfer public funds to a private NGO.
According to the NGO, the said “Patriot” car plate scheme is expected to reap in a whopping RM 15 million where only a tiny fraction of RM1 million will be paid to the JPJ. The total amount of RM 15 million if raised by JPJ, will constitute to public funds which can be used to improve the welfare of the people. As such, there is no difference than grabbing RM 14 million of public funds from the people and channeled it to an NGO.
According to the NGO, the number plate ” PATRIOT 1″ have received bidding amounting to RM1.3 million, which is the highest in Malaysia’s history.
YPN vice-president Nadzim Johan revealed that the lucrative scheme was granted by JPJ when Dato Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein was the acting Transport Minister. As such, I call on Hishammuddin to explain the rationale to award such a lucrative scheme to an NGO without any open tender. If JPJ could award Yayasan Patriot Negara such a lucrative car plate scheme, can any other NGO also apply for such a scheme?
Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai must immediately make his stand clear if he agrees to the award of such lucrative scheme which constitutes to the abuse of public funds. I urge Liow Tiong Lai to use his power as the Transport Minister to immediately suspend this dubious scheme which we believe is an abuse of public funds.
JPJ has in the past issued several special car plate numbers including G1M, PUTRAJAYA and IM4U. Liow Tiong Lai must make public announcement on the total amount raised by all these “special car plates number” and how the proceeds are used in view of promoting transparency, accountability and corruption-free good governance.
If Liow Tiong Lai failed to respond to the “Patriot” Car Plate Scheme within 24 hours, DAP Perak Economic Development Bureau will lodge a report to the MACC against the transport ministry for abuse of power.
