Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali has dismissed former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s pledge to summon and question him over his handling of cases related to 1MDB.
He said, “Whatever I do as the AG are all based on available facts as contained in the investigation papers.
“There is nothing to hide.”
Then, I challenge Apandi to show us the money trail which supports his finding that the RM2.6 billion was indeed a donation. What is the difficulty in doing that?
Apandi of all people should know that it is a most basic principle of natural justice that no person can judge a matter in which they themselves have an interest. (Nemo judex in causa sua).
Thus, declarations on his part in cases like these where his conduct as Attorney-General is questioned, have little effect.
In order to convince the people, he should produce a report in which he sets out in full the documents showing us the money trail which he used in arriving at his decision. That report must then be tabled in Parliament and made public.
He should be brave and take up my challenge. After all, as he says, he has done no wrong and there is nothing to hide.
