Chong Zhemin mocks Mah Hang Soon: Stop living in delusion. Mah Hang Soon’s speculation lacks basis and contradicts MCA’s record of defeat

I refer to the recent statement by MCA Deputy President Datuk Mah Hang Soon, who claimed that MCA’s full participation and mobilization successfully secured 3,096 Chinese votes for the Unity Government during the Ayer Kuning by-election.

Let me be clear, voting is secret. No one, including Mah Hang Soon, can definitively say where those votes came from. His claim is not only speculative and baseless – it also flies in the face of MCA’s repeated defeats over the last three general elections, where they too claimed to have mobilized voters.

If MCA’s mobilization was truly effective, why didn’t it work in 2013, 2018, or 2022? Why did voters reject them again and again? You cannot have it both ways — claim success now while pretending past failures never happened.

I was on the ground throughout the Ayer Kuning by-election. I met the voters, I heard their concerns, and I saw firsthand the desire for competent governance. The support I witnessed was for the Unity Government and the hope it represents, not for a recycled political narrative.

Mah Hang Soon claims the 1000 MCA members who voted for DAP in the last election have now returned to MCA. Based on what? Did he conduct any independent surveys or fieldwork? Or is this just more political daydreaming? If he now admits MCA members deserted the party, why wasn’t there any honest introspection from MCA all these years?

Let’s also not forget, in last year’s Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, DAP received 88% of the Chinese vote. That’s not something you just wipe away with a single by-election. The majority of Chinese voters still see DAP as their primary choice, and that doesn’t change overnight.

Earning public support requires more than just showing up. It takes consistent service, hard work, and humility. As a Member of Parliament, I will never underestimate the intelligence of the people. You can’t win back trust with slogans alone.

So I say this to Mah Hang Soon — don’t lull yourself into a false sense of victory. Come back to reality. Listen to the ground. Serve sincerely. Because no matter how well you pretend to sleep, the sun will rise, and the truth will always come to light.
