Anwar’s Unyielding Determination and Stoic Resilience in His Moment of Pain, Sorrow And Anguish Honours His Father In A Manner That No Wealth And Position Can Give.
I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Dato’ Ibrahim bin Abdul Rahman, a proud son of Penang and the father of Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Dato’ Ibrahim was a former Member of Parliament in Penang. He also served Penang as the former Parliamentary Secretary to the Health Ministry. The Penang state government regards Datuk Ibrahim’s passing as a great loss to the people of Penang and Malaysia.
No one can imagine the pain of Anwar in having to endure death of his loved ones while in prison. Anwar’s mother Che Yan passed away in 2001 while he was serving his first prison term for Sodomy 1.0.
Anwar was prevented from attending the funerals of two closest political allies, namely Datuk Fadzil Noor and Tok Guru Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat who died in June 2002 and 12th February 2015. On both occasions, he was in prison.
It is tragic that Anwar had to lose his mother and father on both occasions when he was in prison. Anwar’s unyielding determination and stoic resilience in his moment of pain, sorrow and anguish, honours his father in a manner that no wealth and position can give.
On behalf of both the Penang state government and the DAP, we offer our deepest condolences to Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Dato’ Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Nurul Izzah Anwar and the family for their loss of Dato’ Ibrahim Abdul Rahman.
