Congratulate Swedish Social Democratic Party (SAP) for their victory in last Sunday’s general election

On behalf of Central Executive Committee of Democratic Action Party Malaysia, I would like to congratulate Swedish Social Democratic Party (SAP) for their victory in last Sunday’s general election on September 14, 2014. This is a triumph not only for the party itself, but to the global social democratic movement.

SAP’s victory asserts the relevance of social democrats towards creating a new world order based not only on power and interests but rooted in society based on morals and values – morals of right and wrong as well as values of freedom and justice of freedom.

Under the leadership of the Social Democrats leader, Stefan Lofven, the SAP regained the support of the voters in Sweden after eight years in opposition and the new coalition government is going to be formed by the Social Democrats and the Greens. The success of the centre-left in Sweden is particularly notable in a European unfavourable political environment dominated by neo-classical liberalism and capitalism.

Lofven began his career as a welder before taking the responsibility as a union leader. His limited experience in legislative assembly and the authority does not prevent him from upholding the core values of the Swedish Model, concern of social welfare by providing the general public better work opportunities and investing in education.

Democratic Action Party remembers fondly the generosity of the Swedish Social Democratic Party in organizing the study programme in 1995 when DAP suffered a devastating defeat in the 1995 general election. The series of courses provided by Swedish Social Democratic Party then had provided the necessary motivation for our new generation of leaders to persevere and laid the groundwork for a successful transition in government as shown by the Penang success model.
