The following resolutions were passed unanimously by DAP Central Executive Committee(CEC) at our meeting last night:-
- Condemn BN for exercising its brute majority to trample on parliamentary democracy, justice and due process in upholding rule of law by passing the motion to suspend DAP Parliamentary Leader and MP for Gelang Patah Lim Kit Siang from attending parliamentary meetings for six months in order to cover up scrutiny and questioning of the RM42 billion 1MDB and RM2.6 billion donation scandal. DAP shall be holding roadshows in support and solidarity for Sdr Lim Kit Siang to highlight his battle to get Parliament to fully account and answer these financial scandals.
- Expresses full support for the 6th October statement made by the Malay Rulers on the need to get to the root of the 1MDB scandal that has led to a crisis of confidence with negative impact on the Malaysian economy and the value of the ringgit; that the Federal government needs to resolve it without concealing any facts and the truth as well as take any appropriate stern action against the culprits responsible.
- Endorses the formation of the Pakatan Harapan coalition comprising PKR, PAN(Amanah) and DAP in all states, a National Pakatan Harapan Secretariat as well as the organization of a National Convention and State Conventions next year, that focuses on economy especially the economic downturn, difficult livelihood and financial constraints caused by the implementation of GST and precipitous drop in the depreciation of the value of the ringgit.
- Strongly opposes the proposed oath of secrecy of Public Account Committee(PAC) members as an attempt to stifle public discussion of financial scandals especially in regards to investigations into the RM42 billion 1MDB scandal and urges PAC hearings to be made public as is a generally accepted practice in Commonwealth countries.
- Expresses deepest condolences to the Orang Asli families in Pos Tohol, Kelantan, for the loss of their 5 children. Urges the Federal government to addresses the concerns raised that led to this tragedy and conduct a full revamp of the standard operating procedure and aid mechanisms in Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli to ensure not only there is no repeat of such incidents, but also action taken against anyone responsible as well as improve the aid machinery for Orang Aslis to make it more effective and efficient.
Leader of the Opposition in the Johor State Assembly
The DAP Central Executive Committee also decided last night to appoint State Assemblywoman for Penggaram, Sdri. Gan Peck Cheng, as the new Leader of Opposition in the Johor State Assembly. State Assemblyman for Jementah, Sdr. Tan Chen Choon, is appointed Deputy Leader of Opposition, in addition to his current role as the Party Whip.
I thank Sdr. Dr. Boo Cheng Hau for his service as the outgoing Leader of Opposition who resigned on 12th October 2015.
I hope both Sdri. Peck Cheng and Sdr. Chen Choon will excel in making the DAP an even stronger voice in the Johor State Assembly, with the support of all DAP elected representatives in Johor.
The Opposition Leader leads DAP State Assemblymen and Assemblywomen to promote the policies of the Party and to coordinate political responses with Pakatan Harapan assemblypersons in the Johor State Assembly.
The position of Leader of Opposition in the Johor State Assembly is yet to be recognised in the statutes of Johor. The position is nominated by DAP Central Executive Committee based on DAP’s number of seats in the Opposition bench.
