DAP commends the Penang state government’s quick response in sending its Penang EXCO member YB Phee Boon Poh and Bayan Lepas Assemblyperson YB Azrul Aziz Mahathir to Christchurch, New Zealand, to accompany the family members of one of the 3 Malaysians injured in the barbaric attack by a New Zealand terrorist on innocent Muslims performing the Friday prayers. YB Phee and family members had stayed previously in New Zealand for some time and he has many contacts with local government leaders in Christchurch.

YB Phee Boon Poh and YB Azrul will not only be representing the Penang state government in looking out for the interests of the Penangite injured in the horrific attack, but also for the other 2 Malaysians injured. Both of them have contacted Wisma Putra to coordinate logistics to ensure that the Malaysian government acts as one nation to offer support, sympathy and solidarity to the 3 injured victims.

DAP reiterates its condemnation of the senseless violence that murdered 49 people and injured another 48. DAP believes that the New Zealand authorities have arrested all the murderers and will ensure that justice be done on behalf of the victims. We pray that not just the 3 Malaysians, but all the injured will fully recover.

The massacre by a white terrorist of innocent Muslims performing prayers in a religious house of worship in what is a peaceful and safe New Zealand, is most abhorrent. At moments of such hateful tragedy, all nations and all people should stand together for peace, respect of religious freedom and diversity, tolerance, harmony and compassion. Human civilization progresses not through hate but love for each other as human beings.
