DAP Sabah expressed our deepest condolences to all victims and families who were affected by the recent earthquake in Ranau, Sabah. We understand that they must be going through a very difficult time and we send out our heartfelt concern and support to them.

We must mention here that we extend our appreciation and utmost respect to all the mountain guides who voluntarily organized and participated in the rescue mission to help the trapped and stranded climbers on top of Mt Kinabalu. Their contribution reflects true Malaysian spirit of caring for one another in difficult times.

We sympathize and understand the sorrow felt by the families who lost their love ones in this tragedy. Therefore DAP Sabah announce the setting up of a Mt Kinabalu Earthquake Relief Fund to assist the victims and their families. We thank the Chief Minister of Penang Lim Guan Eng and Penang state government for their generous and timely contribution of RM100k to the relief fund. We will continue to raise more fund.

Today, DAP Sabah leaders led by DAP Parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang took time off to visit Ranau Town to inspect public and religious building damaged by earthquake. Sdr Lim also visited Kinabalu National Park in a hop to meet up with the officials of Sabah Parks to obtain detail briefings concerning the tragedy.
