DAP’s Malaysia Day Message by DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng

Sarawakians And Sabahans Must Unite With Democratic-Minded Malaysians Who Love Peace, Freedom And Justice To Defeat The Corrupt, Racists And Extremists To Ensure That Sabah And Sarawak Retain Its Rights Under The Federal Constitution As One Of The 3 Entities That Established Malaysia.

DAP urges Sarawakians and Sabahans to unite with democratic-minded Malaysians who love peace, freedom and justice to defeat the corrupt, racists and extremists to ensure that Sabah and Sarawak retain its rights under the Federal Constitution as one of the 3 entities that established Malaysia. The battle to determine Malaysia’s future begins on Malaysia Day.

The red-shirt rally by UMNO members and supporters is a blatant campaign of hate and fear against non-Malays to divert attention from the corruption of BN and their failure to explain the 1MDB RM42 billion financial scandals and the discovery of RM2.6 billion in the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s personal bank account. Further, BN and UMNO is hoping to cover-up at failed economic management which has not only caused an economic downturn nationally but also seen the value of our ringgit slide 30% since last year.

By permitting this red-shirt rally that is filled with the rhetoric of threats of violence against non-Malays, the Prime Minister and BN is doing all they can to feed a sense of grievance, victimhood and resentment. However such rhetoric of hate can not solve our economic problems caused by GST and corruption as well as the increasing servitude to debt by Malaysian households, where our personal debt is now the second highest in Asia at 87% to our Gross Domestic Product(GDP).

Peace-loving Malaysians must unite to defeat the racists and extremists so that Malaysia Day will be remembered as a holy day of unity not disunity, where diversity is celebrated and not condemned. We have a sacral duty to our children to protect their future and that we face the same problems that can only be resolved by collaborating together and not confronting each other with lies and hate.

Only a democratic Malaysia can lift both Sabah and Sarawak out of poverty, fear of being overwhelmed by illegal foreigners and entrenched corruption. Only a peaceful and free Malaysia can ensure that both Sabah and Sarawak be respected and its people live with dignity without our children’s future being stolen. Only a Malaysia with justice can ensure that both Sabah and Sarawak attain prosperity as its birth right, blessed with its abundant natural resources.
