1. DAPSY Malaysia disagrees with calls to file a police report to investigate the individual behind the purported leaked minutes of a Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) meeting.
2. To preserve the independence and sanctity of the judiciary, DAPSY has previously called on the government to address mounting public questions surrounding the judicial appointments. Public confidence in judicial independence can be restored with a timely and transparent explanation.
3. When the public is concerned about judicial integrity, resorting to immediate police reports could be perceived as an attempt to suppress genuine public scrutiny or oversight. Hence, DAPSY urges PDRM and the relevant authorities not to set a precedent that curtails openness or discourages accountability.
4. Law enforcement agencies such as PDRM and relevant authorities can conduct professional fact-based investigations, but solely to focus on verifying whether the leaked document is true. This will assist the government in clarifying the matter and alleviating public concern.
5. DAPSY believes that transparency and accountability are the fundamental spirits that we must all uphold to preserve judicial independence and further reinforce Malaysia’s democratic institutions.
