Devamany position as Speaker of Perak state Legislature untenable!

On 28th June 2013 the then MIC vice-president Datuk S. Devamany a non elected state assemblyman was elected by Assemblymen as Perak State Assembly Speaker. This election came about after he lost the in the contest in the 2013 General Elections for the Parliamentary seat of SG. Siput.

Devamany ran for the Deputy President post in the MIC against S.Sarawanan in 2015 party elections. Sarawanan was expected to win the Deputy post but he lost.

In the run up for the party posts Devamany openly declared he would quit as Speaker Legislative Assembly Perak “he felt it required a huge commitment to bring back relevance and confidence to MIC among Indians and Malaysians.

But after winning the Deputy post he says it’s up to the Party President and the Prime Minister to decide on this matter.

He seems to have reneged the promise he had made ie. to resign as speaker. Why the U Turn? He made the promise to resign as a bait to get the delegates in MIC to vote him in. He has plainly misled the delegates and the public at large when they supported Devemony on the basis he is a principled politician who will live by what he has said.

No body coerced or forced him to announce publicly the “special” offer to all.

Or is Devamony using his current position to bargain a more influential post at the Federal level namely a Ministers posts?

Davemony is the head of a sovereign state in Malaysia. He is answerable to the state assembly which voted him in. He is wrong to say he leaves his Speaker post to PM Najib and his present political master Dr. Subramaniam to decide. By his unprincipled move not to resign it has show how less he understands the Separation of powers. He should just abide and keep up to what he promised and resign the Speaker s post honourably by tendering his letter of resignation to the Clerk of the State Legislature forthwith. Thereafter a new Speaker ought to be elected.

Alternatively a motion must be moved in the Perak state Assembly by concerned assembly man to remove Devamany as Speaker and the BN must take the lead. This is so to bring dignity to the Speakers post and to gain respect from the public at large.

Remember Lunas by-election of 2000

In 2000 in the Lunas by-election DS Samy Vellu openly said if MIC were to loose in the by elections he will never return to Kuala Lumpur. Not only he did not keep this “special” promise he has been seen in and out of Kuala Lumpur without ever asking for apologies on what he could not live by.

Public disrepute and loss of confidence in MIC was due to not honouring by earlier promises made by his ex boss.

My advice don’t be like Samy. You can’t have your cake and eat it also! Be man enough to resign honourably.

Before public disrepute is brought to Devamany or the Speakers post Devamany must relinquish the post without further ado.
