Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin announced that Bersatu will be writing to MACC to request for Bersatu’s bank accounts to be unfrozen. It is a standard operating procedure for the MACC to freeze bank accounts during the investigation of all potential corruption cases.
When Umno was investigated during the 1MDB scandal, UMNO bank accounts was also frozen. Why is Bersatu, which in currently under investigation, would like to request for special privilege so that their account can be unfrozen.
The purpose of freezing the account during the investigation of MACC is to ensure that once the investigation confirms that the funds were illegal or obtained illegally, the funds will not be used or transferred by any party.
I urge the MACC to also investigate whether PAS and GERAKAN, which are both members of the Perikatan National, is also involved in collecting hundreds of millions of ringgit in political donations.
The number of flags, posters and billboards hung by the PN in all corners of the country during the last general election is incredible, far surpassing the publicity materials of PH and Barisan Nasional. Where did Perikatan Nasional received such a huge amount of money to use in the election campaign?
According to Article 19(1)(a) of the 1954 Election Act, the candidate’s expenses for each parliamentary seat cannot exceed RM200,000, and for state seat the threshold is RM100,000. I urge the Election Commission to also investigate whether the expenditures of Perikatan Nasional candidates in the general election have exceeded the legal limit.
