Fundraising appeal for Lim Lip Eng’s legal suit

In 2017, YB Lim Lip Eng, MP for Kepong, had highlighted the investment scheme issue involving e-commerce firm Monspace (M) Sdn Bhd and its founder Datuk Seri Jessy Lai.

As an elected representative, Lim had spoken out and highlighted the plight of a group of Chinese nationals who sought help from him and DAP, as they claimed that they were victims of an investment scheme with Monspace.

However, Lim was sued for defamation over his statements and the KL High Court ruled on 16 March 2023 that the plaintiffs were successful in their defamation suit against Lim and awarded damages amounting to RM2 million.

Lim has through his lawyers filed an appeal against the court’s decision. However, while waiting for the appeal to be heard by the higher courts, damages and legal cost have to be paid to the plaintiffs.

FT DAP stands in solidarity with Lim in this matter. We believe that as a courageous and conscientious elected representative, Lim was carrying out his duty to highlight an issue of public interest.

As the amount of damages awarded is a huge sum, Federal Territory DAP would like to appeal to the public to show moral support by giving Lim a helping hand to settle the damages and cost. In the event he is successful in his appeal to overturn the decision, all funds collected will be used towards the education and humanitarian aid needed by the poor and needy.
