I urge the government to dispatch mobile water treatment units to Tawau in order to address the critical water supply in the district as consequences to El Niño phenomenon.
I have surveyed the suitable site for tapping new water source for Tawau consumption and found out that Andrassy River near to Mile 5, Jalan Apas has plenty of water flow. I think we can install mobile water treatment units to treat the water in situ then transferred to the nearest water distributing tank or piping there.
For instance, two units of mobile water treatment units called Nomad has been used in Ranau in last July after earthquake, delivered by Ministry of Green Technology, Energy and Water.
Tawau is in the urgent need for additional water throughout to compensate the losses in existing water treatment plant due to low water intake level. As we found out from site survey, even Tawau river near to Utara Plant is in the condition of low level, it doesn’t mean that other river is drying also. We can put on the mobile water treatment units standby while waiting for Cinta Mata water dam construction for five years time.
I urge the Waterworks to study the technical feasibility for my proposal. If Ranau can have the Nomad, I don’t see why can’t we have it.
