I warmly welcome the decision by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited to recognise Bursa Malaysia as an accepted stock exchange. This will allow eligible companies listed on Bursa Malaysia’s Main Market to pursue a secondary listing in Hong Kong through a more streamlined process.
This recognition opens an important new financing channel for Malaysian companies. A secondary listing in Hong Kong can help them reach a broader pool of international investors, improve market visibility and liquidity, and gain better access to Hong Kong’s position as a leading international financial centre and gateway to mainland China.
It is also a strong vote of confidence in Malaysia’s regulatory standards, corporate governance framework and capital market infrastructure. Bursa Malaysia becoming the 21st exchange worldwide to receive this recognition demonstrates that our capital market is increasingly respected and internationally connected.
I also welcome the memorandum of understanding between the Securities Commission Malaysia and the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission to promote mutual recognition of funds, cross border listings and a streamlined bilateral IPO framework. Together with Hong Kong’s commitment to provide two rounds of feedback on Malaysian listing applications within 14 days, these initiatives will make cross border market access more efficient and practical.
This achievement reflects the proactive economic diplomacy and reform agenda of the Madani Government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. By strengthening Malaysia’s financial links with major international markets, the Government is creating real opportunities for Malaysian businesses to grow, attract new capital and expand beyond our borders.
I commend the Ministry of Finance, the Securities Commission Malaysia and Bursa Malaysia for working together to secure this important breakthrough. Malaysian companies should now seize this opportunity to strengthen their international presence and contribute to Malaysia’s ambition of becoming a more competitive and globally connected investment hub.
