The remarks of Corruption Prevention Advisory Panel (LPPR) member Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim saddens me. It looks to me that the ex vice-chairman of the board of directors of Transparency International has forgotten the idea that all politicians should come clean and transparent about their wealth and income.
MACC are established and paid to investigate. It is their responsibility to find evidence. How can Tunku Aziz now shift the responsibility to the ordinary Malaysians who have no power to take statement, access documents or conduct search? If MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed can instruct his officers to initiate a probe on the RM24.4 million diamond ring an hour after a report was lodged with MACC on the issue in 2011, why can’t they do so now?
Besides, The New York Times has stated in their article dated February 8 this year that they have obtained invoices and other documents showing millions of dollars in jewellery ordered for Rosmah in Hong Kong in 2008 and 2009. Why can’t MACC approach The New York Times in order to have a look at these invoices and documents?
Rakyat of Malayisa never expects MACC “to kill a cat merely because of the suspicion that the cat has eaten the fish”, we only demand MACC to investigate the cat. I believe Tunku Aziz should have no difficulties to understand the difference between investigation and actual punishment.
While we never ask MACC to kill, as a matter of fact, a life was lost during the investigation over the allegation that one Selangor state assemblypersons had misused the state fund. May I ask MACC and Tunku Aziz, what type of “substantial evidence” did you possess at that point of time that justify the high-handed approach adopted by you in 2009? The answer is no. Instead, MACC adopted the aggressive approach in order to fish evidence!
The accusation towards Najib’s family wealth and lavish lifestyle was not created out of thin air. Najib’s step-son Riza Aziz’s luxurious properties are there in US. The handbags, the extravagant wedding were not delusion. If MACC refuse to see the elephant in the house and refuse to probe someone who lives beyond his mean, then don’t expect any tiny respect for them from the public.
