In view of the upcoming Parliamentary Session on the 16th July 2018, I have submitted the required questions for the Ministries to answer, focusing on 4 main areas, mainly on healthcare issues in the State, flash flood mitigation and drainage plans for Bandar Kuching, pushing for the Cabinet Committee to look into the devolution of powers to the state, and also to question MACC on its intention and progress of their investigation into the alleged corrupt practices of Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib bin Mahmud, the current Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak.
One of the reforms that the new Pakatan Harapan government intends to implement is a reform of the roles of the backbencher which I will be part of. We will be a vibrant and vocal backbencher to keep the executive in check, unlike the previous back benchers under the former Barisan Nasional government, where they merely acted as “approval stamps” rather than the rightful first line of check and balance towards the executive.
Firstly, I will be pushing for the quick formation of the Special Cabinet Committee to initiate steps in looking into devolution of powers to the State and also the restoration of our rightful status in the Federation as enshrined under MA63 and the Federal Constitution. The committee, comprising of representatives’ experts from the different stakeholders including those from Sabah and Sarawak, will provided a detailed analysis and findings to be presented to Putrajaya within 6 months of its establishment.
I will also be pushing for MACC, which is now put under the purview of the Parliament and no more under the Prime Minister’s department, to state its intention and progress in the investigation into the alleged corruption, power abuse and unexplained wealth of the current Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib bin Mahmud. I will be pushing for a fair and quick investigation into those allegations and push that the anti-corruption measures taken by the new government to be extended to the alleged and corrupt leaders even here in Sarawak.
On top of that, I have requested more information with regards to the progress of the construction of the multi-level carpark in Sarawak General Hospital as well as the lift replacements in the hospital. Will be pushing for those urgent replacement to be done quicker as it is urgently needed by the health professionals and public in the hospital. I also requested a progress report on the Petra Jaya Hospital and Sri Aman hospital projectand what is the government’s plan with regards to the termination of contract by the current contractor that was suppose to finish the Petra Jaya Hospital. Will the same action be afforded to the contractors of the Sri Aman hospital?
On top of that, I will be questioning of the Scheme Peduli Sihat proposed by the Pakatan Harapan government that will give the B40 lower income group a Kad Peduli Sihat reportedly worth RM 500 annually where they can use it to see panel doctors even in the private sector to ease the congestion of the government hospitals and also cut the waiting hours faced by the patients. I will be questioning the mechanism of it so it will not be abused and also to make sure it be implemented as soon as possible for the interest of the people.
Finally, besides the other questions as well, I will also question the government of the day on the plans and progress in terms of the flood mitigation and central drainage system in placed in Bandar Kuching as well as any plans for greater implementation in order to solve the problems of flash flood that have been plaguing the residents in different areas in the constituency.
