I will not be celebrating Deepavali this year in solidarity and support with our 2 DAP State assemblymen Sdr Guna and Sdr Saminathan, along with the other SOSMA detainees who are still held in detention until their release.

This year, like all previous years, my office is in the midst of organising our annual Deepavali Open Houses in Bukit Tengah and Bukit Tambun which will be celebrated by all Malaysians, regardless of skin colour, race, religion, gender or age.

However, the preparations by my office will go on as we are also collaborating with both my two State Assemblymen and the events will go on but I will not be attending them.

As the families of the 12 detainees will not be celebrating Deepavali as well, I stand together with them as a sign of solidarity and support with our 2 DAP State assemblymen Sdr Guna and Sdr Saminathan, along with the other SOSMA detainees who are still held in detention in this most difficult time, until they are all released.

I hope the Government will be firm with its principles to uphold the rule of law without fear or favour and not allow anyone to trap them into resorting to use draconian laws like SOSMA and at the same time to thank the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Hamid Bador and his men who have been professional in carrying out their duties toward the detainees.

In solidarity with the detainees and their families this Deepavali.
