In a speech at UMNO AGM yesterday, Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun has warned that continued support for DAP may further alienate the Chinese community.
When the whole UMNO is being hit hard by the mother of all scandals, the 1MDB, it is not surprising that Khairul Azwan conveniently ignored the damage of the 1MDB scandal to the nation. He chosed to play the racial card in an attempt to divert the nation’s attention and regain the support of the People for UMNO.
Khairul Azwan is wrong and he has undermined the wisdom of the 51% Malaysians that have voted for the then opposition coalition, Pakatan Rakyat, in 2013. He has also done wrong to the Malaysians, particularly to the youth, by relentlessly and blindly defending the scandal-linked Najib Razak.
The rule of law in Malaysia has suffered severe damage in 1MDB scandal and after more than 2 years of exposure, the people of Malaysia have yet to see anyone being prosecuted for squandering the nation’s wealth in the 1MDB scandal for his own kleptocratic means. We have only seen the imprisonment sentencing for MP for Pandan, Rafizi Ramli, in a charge for exposing the Auditor General Report on 1MDB.
The seizure of assets worth more than USD1 billion alone in the suit by United States’ DOJ in the 1MDB scandal is sufficient to accommodate the budget slash for JPA Scholarships amounting to RM240 million a year, for 16 years and could benefit at least 12,000 youth.
This is only one of the many examples of how Malaysians have suffered under the administration of BN-UMNO government and this is what Khairul Azwan has conveniently ignored.
Khairul Azwan should stop playing the racial cards and political threats. Clearly, if UMNO continues to be in power and the country is continuously led by the scandal-hit Prime Minister Najib Razak, the nation will be damaged and the interest of all Malaysians be it the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans will be jeopardized and compromised in the course of an administration of kleptocracy.
