IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has failed yet again to meet Xavier Andre Justo in Thailand to investigate claims involving troubled 1MDB.
The IGP should know better. This matter has generated international attention. The world is watching us. He cannot afford to bungle up and to be told the most simple if not obvious of things.
It is embarrassing for us to read in the press that our IGP has failed twice in his attempts to meet Justo. It is even more embarrassing to read that the Thai police have asked him to “use proper channels, including the foreign ministry.”
Did the IGP not use the proper channels in this case? Maybe he should explain.
He must appreciate the practical effects of this. He must not loose sight of the fact that any non-compliance with the requisite provisions of law may have serious consequences later. It may even impact upon the quality and admissibility of evidence obtained and that may prove costly.
The IGP must like everyone else, follow the law. He may be the IGP but he is certainly not above the law. He must therefore act within the confines of the law or be prepared to face the consequences as appears to be the case here.
