To me and the majority Chinese community, it does not matter whether there is a Chinese DCM or otherwise.
As proof of my assertion that Chinese DCM or otherwise matters not to the Chinese community, one just needs to look at the development of Chinese education which is of paramount concern to the Chinese community.
At the time when SUPP has a Chinese DCM who was also holding the Finance Minister post, there is no annual allocation for Chinese Middle Schools and the United Examination Certificate (UEC) has no standing whatsoever in the State Government.
It was only at the time when there was no Chinese DCM and no Chinese Finance Minister that the State Government started to give annual allocation to Chinese Middle School and also certain degree of recognition for UEC.
However, as Abang Johari has made the call for “Chinese to return to the mainstream politics”, his not appointing a Chinese DCM in his new cabinet line-up is political hypocrisy of the highest degree.
While on the one hand, he calls upon Chinese to “return to mainstream politics”, on the other hand, he refused to appoint a Chinese DCM, thus marginalising his Chinese colleagues in the cabinet. Instead, the PBB now officially has 1 CM and 2 DCM.
This defies the so-called power-sharing principle of the BN coalition and it smacks of UMNO’s politics in West Malaysia where one party dominates all inside BN. Here, in Sarawak, it is PBB dominates all within BN.
It seems that Abang Jo is not only allowing the UMNO policies and doctrine to infiltrate into Sarawak but he is himself practising the UMNO’s way of politics in Sarawak, ie. playing racial politics.
