Three months ago, the police recorded the statement of former attorney general, Mohamed Apandi Ali, over alleged power abuse in the 1MDB scandal. However, up till today we have yet to receive any update about the investigation.
It is important for the police or the attorney general’s chambers to inform the people the status of cases of such nature because these are matters of vital interest to the nation.
Interestingly, on May 23, the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed Apandi’s defamation suit against DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang. The High Court judge, Azimah Omar, in her judgment asked two pivotal questions: “Why would Apandi bend the truth about the meeting and recording the statement by the alleged donor (Saudi royal family)?” and “Why would the former AG declare to the world that the delegation met the donor, while it was well within his knowledge that his delegation did not even speak or meet with the fabled donor?”
The police investigation must confirm whether Apandi was lying, as queried by judge Azimah and if so, the reason(s) why Apandi lied.
