Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz has more than once said that his government will give favoured treatment to BN supporters. He was also quoted to have said that he will not entertain any request (for assistance) from the Chinese schools.
I am not the only person who has criticized his remarks which I have termed as a practice of politics of vengeance. MCA and Gerakan leaders too have criticized Mukhriz.
It is therefore shocking that MCA Vice President Chor Chee Heung has yesterday defended Mukhriz by saying that Mukhriz statement was “misinterpreted” and blaming the media for inaccurately reporting Mukhriz’s real message.
My first question is why did Mukhriz not clarify his stand earlier if his remarks were truly mis reported by the media when his remarks were first reported on September 24?
My second question is why did Mukhriz not make the clarification himself yesterday?
Is Chor aware that on October 1, it was reported in Utusan Malaysia and Chinapress that Datuk Mukhriz, when responding to my criticism of him practicing politics of vengeance, had maintained his position that priority would be given to BN supporters?
If Mukhriz was truly misquoted, he could have clarified instead of maintaining his stand.
The only conclusion that one can make is that he actually made those remarks.
Is Chor also aware that on December 1, 2008, Mukhriz had hurt the feelings of the non Malay community when he called on the Government to abolish the vernacular schools?
I want to ask Mukhriz and Chor whether these remarks were also “misinterpreted” by the media.
I maintain that it is most unfair, undemocratic and unacceptable for Kedah state government to discriminate against the Chinese community and Chinese schools because of lack of support from Chinese voters for BN in the 2013 general election.
It is unbecoming for a Mentri Besar who cannot defend his remarks to put the blame on the media.
Mukhriz should be courageous enough to admit his mistake and retract his remarks.
