Malaysia stands to lose credibility by its inaction over and concerning matters related to 1MDB

Malaysia stands to lose credibility by its inaction over and concerning matters related to 1MDB. Action taken in 1MDB related cases across the world puts the Malaysian criminal justice system in question.

Cases like these impact upon financial markets. Investor confidence in Malaysia may be eroded if cases like these are not dealt with efficiently and in good time.

According to reports, the police had on 12th April 2017 said the investigation into 1MDB related cases were complete and the relevant papers had been sent to the AG’s chambers.

However, reports later suggest that the papers were sent back to the police with instructions to probe further into the matter.

The Attorney-General must speak up and explain why there has been a delay in this case. He must explain why no action has been taken here in Malaysia as yet.

He should also state in no uncertain terms what has become of these investigations and when it is we can hope to see action, if any, taken here in the matter.

Other countries have not only completed their probe but also completed the trial process. Those responsible are already serving sentence. But here we are yet to begin. This certainly does not reflect well on our Attorney-General. He must explain.
